It is easy to think there will be a better time for photos. Maybe when life slows down, when schedules feel less full, or when you feel more prepared.
Most families have the same thought process. They want to document this season, but they keep pushing it to later, assuming the timing will feel clearer down the road.
The truth is, there rarely comes a moment when everything feels perfectly aligned. Life continues moving, children grow, and seasons shift quietly without asking whether we feel ready.

Why We Tend to Wait
Waiting often comes from a place of wanting things to feel just right. You might want more time, more energy, or simply a calmer schedule.
But life rarely offers a perfect window. There is always something on the calendar, another milestone ahead, or another reason to postpone.
Years later, many parents say the same thing. They wish they had not waited as long as they did.
The Season You Are In Right Now
Every stage of parenthood has a rhythm that is unique to that moment. Pregnancy, newborn days, and the early years all carry a feeling that cannot be recreated later.
When you document your family as you are today, you preserve more than appearances. You capture what life feels like in that chapter.

Why Earlier Often Feels Easier
Planning ahead gives you space to think through the details without feeling rushed. It allows us to choose a date that works best and prepare everything so the session feels simple from the beginning.
When the planning feels calm, the experience feels calmer too.
Looking Back Later
One of the most common things I hear from parents after their session is how glad they are that they did not wait.
Photographs have a way of becoming more meaningful over time. They turn into reminders of a season that once felt ordinary but later feels incredibly special.

When to Book Maternity and Newborn Sessions
One of the biggest ways to create a relaxed experience is simply planning ahead, especially when it comes to maternity and newborn portraits.
Maternity sessions are best scheduled between 28 and 34 weeks. This timing allows you to still feel comfortable while beautifully documenting your pregnancy before the final weeks arrive.
Newborn sessions are ideally photographed between 7 and 14 days after birth, when babies are still very sleepy and naturally curled. Because this window is short, I recommend reserving your session during pregnancy so that your baby’s spot is saved.
I only take a limited number of newborn sessions each month so that I can accommodate babies who arrive earlier or later than expected. This flexibility allows me to provide a calm, unhurried experience for each family.
Planning ahead helps ensure availability and gives us time to prepare every detail so that you can simply focus on your baby once they arrive.
If you have been thinking about documenting this season for your family, this is your reminder that you do not need perfect timing to begin.
