Temecula Maternity Photographer for Military Families Near Camp Pendleton
As a Temecula maternity photographer, I have the privilege of capturing so many beautiful stories, but this one carries a depth that stays with you. For military families, pregnancy often comes with a unique mix of emotions, love, distance, and strength, and this session reflected all of it.
Recently, I had the honor of working with a mama whose story perfectly reflects the strength and love that comes with this season. When she found out she was pregnant, her husband was away at a military course in Yuma, Arizona. While he was out there training, she started to feel off, took a test, and saw two faint lines that changed everything. She described the moment as “terrified, excited, nervous, and overjoyed, all at once.”
Instead of waiting, she created a moment just for the two of them. She bought a tiny newborn onesie, propped it up next to their German Shepherd, Loki, snapped a photo, and sent it to her husband. Hours later, they were on the phone together, both in tears, celebrating their baby from miles apart.

Sharing the news with family came later, during Christmas, with mugs that read “Grandma Est. 2025.” A simple gift, but one that brought big reactions in every room. And in true personal style, she told her best friend out line dancing, announcing “Say she’s pregnant” mid-photo, followed by excitement, laughter, and a night full of baby name brainstorming.
They later found out they were expecting a baby girl. Her favorite part of pregnancy was feeling those little kicks, something she described as surreal, especially with it being her first. Even now, she laughs that her baby girl is still just as active.
Like many moms, pregnancy came with surprises. One of the biggest was how much she disliked protein, something she pushed through while staying active and committed to taking care of herself and her baby.
A Maternity Session Before Deployment
This maternity session held even deeper meaning. With her husband scheduled to leave on military orders shortly after their daughter’s arrival, these photos became more than portraits. They became a way to hold onto their final weeks together before everything shifted.
She shared that while the session was about their baby, it was also about them. Their connection, their laughter, and their time together before stepping into a new chapter, one that would include distance and sacrifice.
One moment stood out in particular. As music played in the background, Tim McGraw’s “Where the Green Grass Grows” came on. Standing together, hands on her belly, they paused, smiled, and soaked it all in. A quiet, fleeting moment that now lives on forever.
The Strength of Military Motherhood
Now, much of her time is spent with her baby girl while her husband serves abroad. She spoke so beautifully about cherishing the moments they do get together as a family, even if it is just for a day or two between trainings and flights. Watching her daughter light up when her dad comes home is, in her words, unmatched.
Her advice to other moms, especially those navigating motherhood in a similar season, is powerful and honest. “Yes you can.” Whether you are staying home or stepping out into new adventures with your baby, she encourages moms to live fully, even in the chaos. Pack the diaper bag, try the outing, take the chance. Because thriving in this season matters just as much as getting through it.
