Bump to Birthday with Melissa Lyn, Temecula Maternity Photographer
One of my absolute favorite parts of being a Temecula maternity photographer is getting to walk alongside my clients as their families grow. What starts as a maternity session often turns into newborn portraits, then milestone sessions, cake smashes, and full-on family portraits year after year. It’s like I get to be a small part of their story, and it brings me so much joy to document each new chapter!
One family in particular has really stayed in my heart—the sweet journey of baby Maple and her amazing parents. It all started with a spring maternity session that was nothing short of magical. We shot among bright yellow flowers, and Mom chose the most gorgeous burnt orange dress that popped so beautifully against the fresh spring backdrop. She radiated confidence and warmth, and the vibe was dreamy, boho, and full of love.
Fast forward a few weeks, and I got the best surprise—Maple was born on the same day as me! I already felt such a strong connection to this family, but that made it feel even more special. Her newborn session was a dream. She was calm, sleepy, and happy to be swaddled and snuggled, and we carried over that same boho style from the maternity shoot. I even wove in that beautiful burnt orange from Mom’s dress as a nod to where it all began. The colors, the textures, the soft light—everything came together in the most beautiful way.
When Maple turned one, it was time for her cake smash session—a huge milestone and always a blast to photograph! Her theme was “Groovy One,” which is incredibly popular right now with my clients for maternity, newborn, and one-year sessions. It was all earthy tones, dried florals, and retro vibes. Maple wasn’t quite sure about the whole thing at first, but after a few warm hugs from Mom, she was ready to dive into her cake! Those giggles, frosting-covered fingers, and big curious eyes made for the sweetest images.
Next up? I’ll most likely see them again for a family session, and I can already picture Maple running around, full of personality and energy. Watching little ones grow from tiny newborns to walking, talking toddlers is such a gift.
There is something incredibly meaningful about being invited into these moments over and over again. From that first quiet maternity shoot to the joyful chaos of family portraits with toddlers on the move, I cherish the chance to document the passage of time in a beautiful, intentional way.
To every family that has allowed me to grow with you—thank you. It is one of the most rewarding parts of this work, and I feel so lucky every time I get to pick up my camera and continue your story. Here’s to many more chapters together!
